Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI) has a job opportunity for a Plant Logistics Manager to be located in Macon, GA. The Plant Logistics Manager is responsible for managing the Macon Plant Logistics Department in the effective execution of achieving total customer satisfaction, maintaining safety performance, maximizing plant process effectiveness, and maximizing inventory utilization. Additionally, the Plant Logistics Manager will be responsible for developing production and capacity plans, establishes inventory base stock levels, communicates measures that are focused on corporate and plant strategic objectives, and develops the human resources of the Logistics Team.


Key Responsibilities of the Plant Logistics Manager:

  • Leading the Distribution Center, Production Planning and Purchasing Departments.  Direct reports include a Sr. Production Planner; Production Planner; Buyer; Two Materials Planners and Three Distribution Center Supervisors
  • Promoting and ensuring a safe work environment, including adhering to Company and governmental policies and regulations
  • Working with plant management, corporate logistics, and the sales/marketing organization, develop a detailed production and capacity plan for future monthly production
  • Reviewing plan with Production Planner to insure the plan is executed through the development of end-item schedules that utilize a pre-established repetitive master schedule (RMS)
  • Compiling and distributing plant logistics measures to department team associates and corporate logistics
  • Developing weekly sales estimate and production plan for use with BPO (GBAR) activity reports
  • Using IT tools to calculate sales trends, base stock inventory, odd-lot inventory and item popularity
  • Conferring with marketing, sales, corporate logistics, and Macon staff management on customer service issues, sales promotions, new product introductions, production problems, and CES data integrity
  • Assisting managers, supervisors, and special teams engaged in process improvement projects


 Required Qualifications for the Plant Logistics Manager:

  • Bachelor's degree in business, technical or related field
  • 5+ years experience working in a Manufacturing Management role
  • Highly effective communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize and successfully execute tasks in accordance with business objectives
  • Proven ability to implement change in manufacturing and/or maintenance systems
  • Basic computer proficiency with email and with Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
  • Basic knowledge of key OSHA regulations (such as Confined Spaces, Electrical Safety, Energy Isolation and Machine Safeguarding)
  • Proven incident investigation skills and familiarity with structured tools (such as Root Cause Failure Analysis or 5 Why)


 Desired Qualifications for the Plant Logistics Manager:

  • 3+ years of full-time Distribution Center experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience working with a unionized workforce
  • Knowledge, understanding and implementation of process improvement methodologies
