Armstrong Ceilings, a division of Armstrong World Industries, Inc. has a job opportunity for an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to be located in Macon, GA. The EHS Manager will serve as the subject matter expert and ensures that all aspects of production operations are compliant with internal and external EH&S requirements. Additionally, the EHS Manager supports a 2 line plant that manufactures both sheet flooring and vinyl tile, operates 3 shifts, and employs approximately 220 employees.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager:

EHS Program Administration

  • Managing plant's environmental and safety reporting including regulatory OSHA, EPA, and IEPA reporting and record keeping requirements
  • Preparing and submitting all environmental permits
  • Creating and managing budgets for EHS activities including consulting and testing, waste  removal, safety equipment, safety recognition activities, etc.
  • Assisting HR with the management of workers' compensation in such a way that employees having legitimate claims expeditiously receive required benefits while protecting the company's assets from illegitimate claims

 

Compliance

  • Developing, implementing, and coordinating the safety program for the operation, and monitor work processes and procedures to drive team performance toward departmental and organizational goals
  • Performing internal audits to identify non-compliance, hazardous conditions & unsafe behaviors; audit scope includes processes, facilities and equipment
  • Managing improvement opportunities & any non-compliance issues from concept through conclusion
  • Performing accidents/incidents investigations and facilitates the development of root cause corrections
  • Conducting hazard assessment, including identification of hazards and corrective action plans
  • Implementing environmental solutions and drive changes in manufacturing processes / systems that lead to reduction in environmental waste streams
  • Leading investigations on any environmental non-compliance incidents and provide urgent response to operational issues
  • Managing the plant's safety and industrial hygiene programs and ensure compliance with internal and external safety and health regulations and policies

 

Training

  • Providing leadership, coaching, formal & informal training in support of on-going initiatives
  • Identifying training and development needs within an organization
  • Partnering with operational managers to identify specific training needs and work with Corporate EH&S Manager to design required training
  • Providing technical expertise to plant personnel on key governmental regulations pertaining to environment, health and safety

 

Required Qualifications for the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager:

  • BS degree in Engineering, Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management or closely related field
  • 5+ years demonstrated EHS experience in a manufacturing environment, including both environmental and safety experience
  • Solid experience with permit administration and management, including Title V.  Air permit experience is especially important
  • Experience preparing and delivering EH&S training
  • Background and expertise in EHS recordkeeping, reporting, and compliance
  • Experience with incident Investigation, including Root Cause Analysis and Five Why Analysis
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • 2 or more years of experience in Workers’ Compensation management

 

Desired Qualifications for the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager:

  • Training in Ergonomics and as a First Aid Responder 
  • Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • Knowledge of Lean and/or other process improvement methodologies
  • Experience creating a positive and strong relationships within a Union environment
  • Previous experience with Title V permitting & reporting is highly desirable
  • Plant environmental experience
  • BBS or Safe Start® experience

About the Location (Macon, GA)

Our Macon Plant, one of six Armstrong ceiling plants, employs approximately 435 people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers.  Located approximately 85 miles south of Atlanta, the Macon facility has 33 acres under one roof, or 1.5 million square feet of floor space.  It is the largest ceiling tile factory in the world.  The operations are complex, automated, use the latest modern management technology, and manufacture a wide range of commercial and residential ceiling products.
