Armstrong World Industries, Inc. has a job opportunity for an Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager to be located at our mineral wool manufacturing facility in Millwood, WV. Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Environmental, Health and Safety Manger will work closely with and provide EHS leadership to associates on the plant floor along with safety teams and the plant support staff to achieve and maintain world class EHS performance.


Key Responsibilities of the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager:

  • Leading the plant in achieving a sustainable safety culture through effective implementation of the plant’s safety processes and initiatives
  • Ensuring compliance with OSHA regulations, Armstrong safety and health policies, and standard operating procedures
  • Providing functional knowledge of key OSHA regulations and industry standards
  • Working to identify and implement safety and health improvement opportunities
  • Interfacing with regulatory agencies, committee members and staff to formulate corrective actions
  • Monitoring all current information on regulations and requirements related to hazardous materials and agents
  • Investigating and evaluating new equipment and ensure appropriate safeguards are in place
  • Ensuring compliance with federal, state and local environmental regulations along with Armstrong policies and standard operating procedures
  • Providing functional knowledge and experience in air and wastewater permitting, compliance, waste management and community right-to-know act reporting
  • Supporting Armstrong sustainability initiatives
  • Executing the plant strategic and operating plans to ensure environmental and safety compliance
  • Providing urgent response to operational issues 24/7, including environmental upset conditions and case management of safety incidents
  • Providing leadership and project management for specific EHS projects and initiatives
  • Developing and managing budgets for EHS activities
  • Interacting with Corporate EHS to execute Armstrong initiatives and participate in the ABP EHS Network
  • Directing the activities of the Safety Leadership Team and plant environmental or safety committees



Required Qualifications of the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Management, Engineering or other closely-related field
  • 5+ years of applied EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with risk reduction in employee behaviors as well as unsafe conditions
  • Experience leading safety culture improvement projects
  • Incident investigation expertise, including Root Cause Analysis or Five Why Analysis
  • Proven project management and team facilitation skills
  • Proven training and development experience
  • Effective communication skills, including verbal, written, presentation and data organization
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office


Desired Qualifications of the Environmental, Health and Safety Manager:

  • Certified Safety Professional or Certified Industrial Hygienist
  • Case management experience with workers compensation programs
  • Experience with environmental permitting, recordkeeping and reporting
  • Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean and/or other process improvement methods
