Armstrong World Industries (AWI), has a job opportunity for a Quality Technician to be located at our plant in Hilliard, OH. Reporting to the Value Stream Manager, the Quality Technician will be responsible for providing a wide variety of technical and scientific work. With minimal supervision, the Quality Technician is responsible for workflow management, servicing internal customers, conducting quality tests, managing new product development and test scheduling, managing daily quality system tasks and plant gauge calibrations. Additionally, the Quality Technician will liaise with corporate departments, outside vendors and agencies.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Quality Technician:

  • Completing daily summary of viewing board checks and documentation
  • Conducting daily audit of production team quality checks
  • Supporting the implementation of plant quality system through editing and populating quality documents, specifications and process
  • Distributing updates on quality specification changes to production teams
  • Cleaning, inspecting and calibrating gauges on a weekly basis as well as troubleshooting gauge issues with production operators
  • Maintaining plant calibration process documentation and records
  • Conducting audits on calibration status on the shop floor
  • Training operators on the use and care of gauges
  • Collecting samples for IPQA and as need for corporate NPD tests or other tests as needed
  • Completing and filing test and analytical lab requisitions and documenting results
  • Completing laboratory testing, analysis and reporting on raw materials, paint and finish product samples in an efficiency manner
  • Serving as the resource product development teams for identifying test plans and test optimization to meet launch schedule
  • Interfacing with Underwriters Laboratory (UL) to maintain product certifications
  • Assisting Process Engineers with testing as needed
  • Ordering supplies for testing or quality as needed
  • Maintaining databases and entering data
  • Maintaining Global Spec Management system data

 

Required Qualifications of the Quality Technician:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in a manufacturing quality function or as a lab technician or at least 2 years experience in manufacturing at the Armstrong Hilliard plant
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to use measurement devices such as micrometers, calipers, scales and dial indicators
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to work independently and handle multiple responsibilities
  • Ability to lift or move up to 50 lbs

 

Desired Qualifications of the Quality Technician:

  • College coursework, Associate’s or Bachelor’s Degree
  • SAP, MX or other related database experience
  • Previous quality, document control and SharePoint experience

About the Location (Hilliard, OH)

Our Hilliard Plant, one of six Armstrong ceiling plants in North America, employs approximately 135 associates across multiple shifts who are involved in the manufacturing and shipping of acoustical ceiling tile.  The Hilliard plant prides itself in placing high priority on safety, quality and exceeding customer expectations.
