Armstrong World Industries (AWI) has a job opportunity for a Plant Manager to lead operations at our Plasterform, Inc. subsidiary in Mississauga, Ontario. The Plant Manager will oversee a 130,000-square foot manufacturing facility with approximately 90 employees. Under the general guidance of the Director, Architectural Specialties Operations, the Plant Manager will be accountable for the effective management, profitable operation, and leadership of the facility. This position will be responsible for the coordination of staff to create a safety-focused culture that drives process improvement, cost reduction, organization development and customer satisfaction.


Key Responsibilities of the Plant Manager:         

  • Promoting awareness of unsafe conditions, housekeeping and adherence to environmental, health and safety programs, procedures, and policies
  • Managing overall plant performance to reach established goals and deciding appropriate corrective actions in conjunction with corporate management when necessary
  • Collaborating with local and corporate sales and marketing teams to efficiently flow work through the plant, develop new products, provide excellent customer service, and drive profitability
  • Developing a highly capable leadership team through ongoing professional development focused on improving/acquiring greater proficiency, leadership skills and abilities
  • Setting clear duties, responsibilities, objectives and accountability measures for plant leadership team
  • Providing ongoing feedback and evaluating plant leadership team performance
  • Selecting and assuring adequate training of key personnel that stimulates their development for maximum effectiveness and orientation into the plant staff organization
  • Driving the plant’s transition to a world-class Lean manufacturing environment
  • Determining the need for, recommending, and approving production and salaried organization size and structure
  • Promoting and maintaining positive employee relations
  • Formulating the plant strategy and objectives, and engaging all associates in the formulation process
  • Maintaining good working relationships with local government bodies and the local community
  • Participating in the formulation of plant policies
  • Providing subject matter expertise as a member of other teams within the wider AWI organization


Required Qualifications for the Plant Manager:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a business or technical discipline
  • 5+ years of experience managing a manufacturing operation
  • Strong process improvement leadership and facilitation skills
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated skill in leading organizations through change


Desired Qualifications for the Plant Manager:

  • Engineering degree
  • Lean and/or Six Sigma certification
