Armstrong World Industries, Inc. has a job opportunity for a Value Stream Improvement Champion. The Value Stream Improvement will be responsible for effective management and coordination of all forming, fabrication, and shipping activities at the Tectum Plant.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Value Stream Improvement Champion:

  • Promoting the plant safety process by leading and maintaining a high level of awareness and operating discipline for all plant safety policies
  • Driving the plant lean transformation and related efforts including daily Gemba walks, quality glass wall, logistics board, VSM sessions, driving MDI and HOP, and creation and use of standard work
  • Identifying and executing projects in the Value Stream or plant wide including identifying improvement opportunities, understanding current projects, determining needed resources and procuring those resources
  • Aligning the A3 / Kaizen events and hoshin projects with Value Stream / Plant results
  • Leading Kaizen events – identify team members, prepare agenda, conduct training, implement improvements, create and track measures, and actions
  • Ensuring accountability is maintained for MDI (managing for daily improvement) and Gemba behaviors and processes are effective in achieving desired results
  • Building relationships with the Value Stream Manager, Production Superintendent, and Maintenance Manager to understand the ongoing operational issues
  • Organizing and analyzing data sets that outline the systemic improvement opportunities
  • Utilizing technical expertise and leadership skills to identify, initiate and implement significant process improvement activities.
  • Providing systems based experience and thinking which allow the operation to transform from a task based culture to a system based culture
  • Responsible for directing the activities of the Kaizen teams that are made up of maintenance support personnel, production personnel, and support staff
  • Coordinating with Value Stream leadership on improvements and sustainability efforts

 

Required Qualifications for the Value Stream Improvement Champion:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 5+ years required of manufacturing, maintenance or engineering, and plant experience
  • Strong leadership, facilitation and meeting management skills
  • Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills with all levels of the organization to address conflicts, resolve upset conditions, and facilitate behavioral change
  • Ability and desire to learn Lean methodology and employ those skills across the value stream and plant
  • Effective communication, writing, presentation, and data organization skills.
  • Ability to effectively execute basic continuous improvement tools: 5S, TPM, AM/PM, Value Stream Mapping, Poka-Yoke, Standard Work, and Kaizen
  • Kaizen Leadership and facilitation experience required
  • Demonstration of strong project management and facilitation capabilities
  • Basic statistical and data analysis skills
  • Computer proficiency in, Excel, Word, Power Point, with basic skills in Minitab, Infinity or similar statistical software
  • Ability to pull and work with data sets from multiple sources including; Data Historian, Infinity, Access, SAP, and other plant or AWI systems to identify opportunities and accurately assess situations

 

Desired Qualifications for the Value Stream Improvement Champion:

  • Technical or Engineering Degree
  • Line management and/or first line supervision experience
  • Lean Certification from reputable organization or certifying body
  • Significant experience working within a Lean culture
  • Green Belt Certification
  • Experience working with maintenance and shop floor employees
  • Process plant experience

About the Location (Newark, OH)

Our Tectum manufacturing plant, one of seven Armstrong ceiling plants in North America, employs approximately 100 people across 2 shifts who are involved in the manufacturing and shipping of our Tectum product.   With over 60 years of innovation and experience in reducing noise worldwide, our Tectum plant has the right product for your noise problem.
