Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI) is currently seeking a Process Engineer to join our team in Pensacola, FL to ensure the plant meets its manufacturing goals and continuously improves beyond best practice in safety, quality, cost, and effectiveness. The Process Engineer will be responsible for leading cross functional teams to achieve improvement objectives and for supporting all aspects of the Value Stream process including integrated projects. The Process Engineer will also serve as SME for painting systems across the department and will be tasked with providing hands-on technical support, project management, and process improvement leadership.


Responsibilities of the Process Engineer:

  • Serve as technical support leader primarily for medium to large scope projects including cost reduction, new product development, and process improvement
  • Act as an “owner of the business” and an advocate for the Quality Systems and the customer
  • Investigate improvement opportunities and initiate critical manufacturing process improvement projects through the proper channels
  • Improve plant performance by sharing practical knowledge of science and technology at all levels of the manufacturing organization
  • Assist with and lead RCFA investigations to determine the root cause of process failures related to material usage or process control
  • Provide technical expertise and leadership in applying process improvement tools
  • Utilize process improvement tools such as Lean, Six Sigma, Design of Experiments and statistical process control to identify opportunities to improve plant performance
  • Monitor and audit process control initiatives
  • Continuously coach the production operators in the use of process control techniques, methodologies, and equipment capabilities
  • Support plant safety process by actively engaging in safety audits and risk assessments
  • Create and revise raw material specifications to meet Value Stream and end user requirements


Required Education and Qualifications of the Process Engineer:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Science
  • Ability to effectively interact with all organizational levels to address and resolve conflicts
  • Prior knowledge of plant manufacturing processes and systems
  • Ability to analyze data, make decisions based on the data, and implement corrective action
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Mini Tab
  • Ability to pull and work with data sets from multiple sources including; Data Historian, Infinity, Access, SAP, and other plant systems to identify opportunities and accurately assess situations
  • Proficient data organization and project management skills



Preferred Qualifications of the Process Engineer:

  • 3+ years of technical experience in a process manufacturing environment, chemical plant, paint factory, or building products

About the Location (Pensacola, FL)

Our Pensacola Plant, one of six Armstrong ceiling plants, employs approximately 230 people working on rotating shifts, 24/7, in the manufacture and shipment of acoustical ceiling tile to Armstrong's customers worldwide. The Pensacola Plant was originally built in 1929 to produce insulating building material.  Pensacola was the first European-inhabited settlement in United States.
