Job Description :

Armstrong World Industries, Inc., has a job opportunity for an Account Manager for its Home Depot ceilings business.  Under the direction of the Vice President, Customer Service & Sales Operations, the Account Manager will be responsible for managing the Home Depot ceilings account and developing strategies for growth. Additionally, the Account Manager’s responsibilities will include day-to-day account support to deliver sales and profitability within a mature building materials category. The successful candidate will understand how Home Depot works from the inside out, will be strong in data analysis, will understand or learn the ceilings category, and will be able to utilize prior experience to deliver expected performance and drive growth. 


Key Responsibilities of the Account Manager:

  • Achieving sales revenue and average unit value (AUV) targets for ceiling and grid products to The Home Depot
  • Acting as Armstrong’s face to the customer, including managing the day-to-day relationship with the merchant, stores, and support functions
  • Managing all account maintenance needs on Home Depot systems, including product data, item changes, inventory levels, E catalog, planograms, and related marketing or merchandising information
  • Communicating and responding effectively to inquiries from the customer and internal teams
  • Collecting and analyzing data provided by the customer, Armstrong and other sources to ensure the account is performing at or above expectations
  • Making analytical and fact-based recommendations to internal management and to the customer
  • Developing, pitching and monitoring implementation of new products, pricing, promotions and pilot programs
  • Collaborating internally with other Armstrong functions
  • Ensuring that business plans, forecasts, and metrics are updated and reflect accurate information
  • Helping monitor and mediate claims and service issues and manage prompt resolution
  • Helping develop, execute and maintain effective in-aisle and online merchandising
  • Acting as a functional expert to the customer, providing timely and appropriate product training, as needed, to increase customer knowledge on ceiling products and market position of category
  • Providing customer with guidance to support product mix, price positioning and market competitiveness
  • Developing trusting and productive relationships with key stakeholders across functional areas within Home Depot


Required Qualifications of the Account Manager:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience with national home centers required, preferably for a Home Depot supplier and/or in building materials
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word; working knowledge or ability to learn SAP    
  • Strong data analysis and interpretation skills
  • Ability to identify opportunities for productivity and growth from customer and Armstrong perspectives
  • Proven ability to develop and deliver sales presentations
  • Ability to communicate and respond effectively to customer and management inquiries at multiple levels
  • Detailed, focused, and organized; ability to work independently as well as to collaborate across functions
  • Responsive to customer, market, and competitive changes, with ability to meet deadlines


Desired Qualifications:

  • MBA or other related advanced degree
  • 1+ years of home center account management experience, with proven business relationship development and selling to Home Depot
  • Demonstrated experience with Home Depot systems
  • Clear understanding and knowledge of Home Depot store operations, experience in US Northeast a plus
  • Industry knowledge of ceilings or related building material categories
  • Working knowledge of supply chain and logistics systems
  • Experience with special order and on-line assortments
  • Channel marketing experience with home center accounts
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to handle difficult situations


Location and Travel:            

  • Outstanding field-based candidates may be considered, Northeast US preferred   
  • The job requires approximately 20-40% travel (or more, if not Lancaster-based)
