Armstrong World Industries, Inc. (AWI) has a job opportunity for an Operations Excellence Manager to be located in Lancaster, PA or Columbus, OH. The Operations Excellence Senior Manager is responsible for driving our Lean cultural transformation in the mineral fiber and metal ceilings plants and businesses, ensuring a high level of commitment and excitement with business leaders, Lean plant experts, plant leadership and floor employees, including knowledge transfer into local operations.                                          

 

Key Responsibilities of the Operations Excellence Manager:

  • Developing and execute phased strategies and tactical deployment programs for both manufacturing and business functions
  • Developing operational excellence targets including re-alignment of capital and human resources
  • Co-leading the Lean Steering Committee with the Plant Managers to select and track Kaizen activities, drive culture change, implement and improve management systems, and introduce new tools to solve complex business problems    
  • Preparing the plants and business functions for improvement activities and events, ensure proper resourcing and ties to business objectives, conduct post event follow-up, and auditing of results
  • Building and maintaining the foundation for continuous improvement by ensuring the effective use of transformation activities aligned with our Armstrong Business System. Support the cultural shift necessary to transform the organization to a Continuous Improvement, business process and data driven decision making mindset
  • Assuming the role of coach, consultant, participant, and/or lead on continuous improvement events
  • Managing a small team of experts, while leveraging the talents and experiences of others across the company

 

Required Qualifications for the Operations Excellence Manager:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or Operations Management or equivalent experience
  • Lean or Six Sigma Certification
  • 7+ years Lean, Six Sigma or Process Improvement experience
  • 7+ years management experience
  • 15+ years Operations Leader (Business Unit or Production Manager) experience
  • Experience in managing plant operations in a global setting and driving change across cultures
  • Proven success designing road maps and meeting KPI goals, including reducing supply chain costs, improving through-put, shortening cycle time, and improving inventory turns

 

Desired Qualifications for the Operations Excellence Manager:

  • MBA (Master of Business Administration)
  • Ceiling Manufacturing experience
  • PMP (Project Management Professional) Certification
